The BCI4Kids program is a child- and family-centered clinical research program that provides children with severe physical disabilities access to non-invasive, EEG-based brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. The program studies how brain signals can be interpreted to control applications without requiring reliable physical movement.

Families participate in introductory sessions at the hospital to explore different BCI systems and their potential uses. The team works collaboratively with each child to select appropriate technology, set personalized goals, and adapt systems to meet individual needs. Clinical and technical staff provide ongoing support, adjustments, and progress tracking as children work toward their goals. The program is designed to support independence, interaction, and participation in play by developing and providing access to assistive brain-computer interface technology tailored to the needs of children with physical impairments.

While BCI is an emerging access technology intended to complement existing assistive devices rather than replace them, participation in the program helps advance the field toward more functional real-world applications.
