Researchers at MetroHealth Medical Center are conducting a study of a small, implanted device (“KeyGrip”) to activate paralyzed muscles to provide hand grasp in patients with spinal cord injury.
To qualify for this study, you must:
- Be older than 18 years of age.
- Have a spinal cord injury that occurred at least 6 months ago.
- Have an injury level between C1-C8.
- Have no other neurological deficits.
What is involved?
- Evaluation of your arm and hand muscle excitability to confirm your eligibility.
- Testing of your hand function before and after treatment
- A 60-minute procedure to implant the KeyGrip device in your forearm.
- Exercise to develop your hand grasp strength.
- Training in use of the KeyGrip system for functional activities that you identify.
- Follow-up visits at 3-, 6-, and 12-months.
