Hundreds of happy children of all ages flocked to the Sunday Safety Extravaganza on Sunday, September 6th to receive a free ice cream at Klein’s Ice Cream House in Boro Park. Sponsored by Senator Simcha Felder and BINA, the event was the exciting culmination of a helmet safety campaign during which youngsters rode to participating neighborhood toy stores on their bikes wearing helmets, and received a coupon which was redeemed for ice cream on Sunday. Entire families came to enjoy the extravaganza, which included an FDNY display with handouts of safety booklets and fire hats for the children, face painting and balloon sculpting. Participants were thrilled with the opportunity to tour the fire truck, Hatzoloh ambulance and Shomrim and Misaskim command centers parked on site. Helmet Safety activity books were distributed as well. Senator Felder personally collected the coupons and distributed the ice cream, along with a Certificate of Recognition, to the “Safe Riders.” He was joined by Councilman David Greenfield, who addressed the crowd along with Senator Felder, thanking BINA for their unique work helping brain injury survivors and stressing the critical importance of promoting safety in the community.
