Crisis Intervention
& Family Support

You don’t have to do it alone.

We offer counseling, support and education to families affected by the many changes and challenges that arise due to the upheaval of a brain injury. Family members of all ages will benefit greatly from the professional services provided at no charge.

Brain injury is a sudden and often life-altering event, presenting significant challenges and repercussions for every member of the family in an instant. Spouses, children, parents and siblings… must deal with the upheaval and changes in the family dynamic in the aftermath of the injury.

As the primary caregiver, you must make critical rehab and medical decisions and deal with complicated insurance and legal issues while struggling to maintain a semblance of stability at home and work. It is normal to feel scared and overwhelmed. You may also feel isolated because no one understands what you’re going through.

But you are not alone.

Our crisis intervention and family support program is under the direction of Elchanan Schwarz, LMHC, a licensed mental health professional.

We offer free counseling and education to survivors and their immediate families, a lifeline that allows them to speak freely to a professional who gets it.
Mental health referrals to a range of practitioners are provided as needed.

Support Groups

We have several support groups for caregivers as well as brain injury survivors that take place regularly via Zoom and are an invaluable opportunity for peer networking and support. Please contact us for more information about current support groups.

Family Training

As a family member newly confronted with the challenge of a traumatic brain injury or stroke, you will benefit greatly from the monthly Zoom meeting, “Introduction to Brain Injury” hosted by Elchanan Schwarz. The meeting, held on the first Wednesday of the month, provides an educational overview of brain injury and what to expect during the recovery and rehabilitation process. A Q&A follows the presentation.

Registration is required by 9:00 a.m. on the day of the meeting. All close family members aged 18 and up are welcome. To register for the next meeting, please click below.
